Vietnam

After Siem Reap in Cambodia we decided to go with Chema to Koh Rong. He actually left before and I went to another place called Battambang.

Battambang

  • Why go: It has a little bit of an artsy vibe, thought not much. Its in the countryside. And there is some history to be explored.

  • Highlights:

    • Bamboo train ride through the countryside

    • Killing Caves

    • Street art and local creative scene

Didn't love this place to be honest. I felt it was completely skippable, but I did not get to do the Bamboo train... Or maybe I did? I am writing this in 2025 which is 10 years after so I can't remember much. Only thing I can recall is that I did not love this place.

I do remember sleeping at a hostel where my roomies where two Australians which told me that they did not buy any food for a living but actually collected food in good conditions from the garbage. This was new... Apparently the trend was called Freeganism.

"Freeganism is a lifestyle where people try to minimize their participation in the conventional economy and reduce waste—especially food waste. Instead of buying food, freegans often recover perfectly edible items discarded by supermarkets, restaurants, or individuals, usually because of sell-by dates, cosmetic imperfections, or surplus."

I then decide dto go to KohRong because Chema sent me a message and told me it was fantastic. It was a bit of a hussle to get there and I had to spend a night on Phon Peng
